About this trike
The “Punisher” Land Speed Record Trike is fitted with a Casarva Chain Drive Independent Rear Suspension Trike Conversion.
We were approached to build the trike specifically to set a new World Land Speed Record and be able to nip to the shops – so it had to be road legal.
So we fitted our chain drive IRS bolt on trike conversion kit essentially the same as our standard brute kit with differential with a few modifications to allow for its special purpose
The donor bike is a Kawasaki ZZR1400 and initially this was in standard tune but as time went on it was sent to the legendary engine tuner Jack Frost at Hole Shot racing in Northern Ireland where the hp rating rose to 500 and the trike was fitted with Nitrous and a Turbo.
The trike went to Elvington, Yorkshire UK in 2018 and set new land speed records then taking the Guinness World Record, The UKTA and the ACU records – 10 in all.
Fast forward to 26th of May 2023 and “The Punisher” smashed it’s own records with a new Guinness World Record of 160.94 mph (259.02kph) for the 2 way Guinness run and over 177mph on the standing start one way! (see the certificate on the photo gallery)
What is Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) on a trike?
Casarva IRS (independent Rear Suspension) trikes handle better and and are more comfortable to ride than those with a solid axles. The tyres stay planted in the road surface giving you maximum control if the road gets a little tricky because each side has its own suspension system which are connected by an anti-roll bar made in spring steel. This assists the shock absorbers in keeping the rear end planted, reduces rider shock and assists with steering.
The drive line irrespective of being shaft, belt or chain, has a differential which allows the wheels to turn independently of each other via half shafts which have been tailor made to each trike and there are options on the track width and wheelbase length to make sure that the trike is set up to be the best it can be. Tyres and wheel size are selected to works best with each trike – one size definitively does not fit all not fit all.
