Casarva BMW R1200RT IRS trike with reverse gearbox.
The R1200RT is a smart and comfortable cruising trike.
The Casarva Brute shaft drive conversion is bolted to the bike frame and we have fitted the Casarva Elite Reverse gearbox which means there are no worries about accessing parking spaces or reverse up steep inclines.
The BMW silencer was rerouted in stainless steel to exit in the centre with an aluminium shroud to finish off the exit.
Due to the IRS (Independent Rear Suspension) the BMW’s panniers are still there but have to be demounted to open them because of the trike mudguards and frame. A little inconvenience but a great benefit on a touring trike like this one.
The donor bike was fitted with BMW’s Dynamic ESA suspension which presented some challenges but we overcame them.
Originally the road speed sensor works off the internal gears of the bikes rear drive (which is no longer there) and this also tell the ABS unit on the bike whats going on. So to remedy this we have fitted a Casarva reluctor ring and re-positioned the Halls sensor to that which accurately restores the speedometer and make sure the ABS is not showing an error.
The rear has the optional Casarva Parallel Bull bars in mirror polished stainless steel
What is Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) on a trike?
Casarva IRS (independent Rear Suspension) trikes handle better and and are more comfortable to ride than those with a solid axles. The tyres stay planted in the road surface giving you maximum control if the road gets a little tricky because each side has its own suspension system which are connected by an anti-roll bar made in spring steel. This assists the shock absorbers in keeping the rear end planted, reduces rider shock and assists with steering.
The drive line irrespective of being chain, belt or shaft, has a differential which allows the wheels to turn independently of each other via half shafts which have been tailor made to each trike and there are options on the track width and wheelbase length to make sure that the trike is set up to be the best it can be. Tyres and wheel size are selected to works best with each trike – one size definitively does not fit all not fit all.
